Zemar David Tyshon Batts, 19, and a 15-year-old teen have been identified and charged in connection to a July shooting into a vehicle and Lexington Park home, according to the sheriff's office.

On Saturday July 6, deputies from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office were called to investigate reports of shots fired in the 21000 block of Pacific Drive near Columbus Drive.

Witnesses at the time said that they saw people in two vehicles in the area, with one occupant firing shots at the other, though neither was located.

Following a lengthy investigation, authorities announced on Wednesday that Batts and the teen - who is being charged as an adult - were arrested without incident the previous day at separate homes in Lexington Park.

The teen and Batts were charged with two counts each of first-degree, and second-degree murder, as well as first-degree assault.

Batts was also charged with with two counts of firearm use during the commission of a felony or crime of violence and possession of a regulated firearm by a person under 21, and the teen was hit with two more counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree assault.

They're being held at the Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown pending upcoming bond hearings.

"These arrests are a testament to the unwavering determination and investigative work done by our office," St. Mary's County Sheriff Steve Hall said in a statement. "The safety of our community remains our top priority, and we are steadfast in this commitment.”
